Dan Kammen

• Environmental policy adviser to Barack Obama and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger
• Founding director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL). 

In this first half of his plenary address before the Copenhagen Climate Congress (March 11, 2009), Dan Kammen makes several points, including:

• "One technology does stand out - and that is efficiency"
• "We need sustainable energy systems from the poorest villages to the largest nations, but that doesn't necessarily mean no carbon. This is a wide range of poor and impoverished communities where greater access to fossil fuels is a critical element of development, and it's selfish for many of us to think otherwise"
• "We also however need to monitize green house gas emissions to put the price on carbon"
